What we do

As Treasurer, I oversee South Australia’s finances, revenue, expenditure and economic policy. I work closely with the Department of Treasury and Finance to prepare and manage the State Budget, maintain fiscal discipline, support jobs and investment, and fund essential public services.

In 2025, I had the honour of being sworn in as South Australia’s Treasurer, to serve under a Malinauskas Labor Government.

I previously served as Treasurer from 2014-2018 before returning to the role in September of 2025.
My last term was defined by economic transition, major infrastructure and energy decisions.
Today, the focus is on maintaining fiscal discipline while growing investment, productivity, housing, skills, and essential services in an ever-changing global economy.

It means balancing immediate pressures, with results over rhetoric.
We are focused on cost of living, housing and service demand with long-term economic growth.
The role requires responsible budgeting, confidence for investors, productive infrastructure, careful debt management and fair support for people who need it most.

Crucially, this is a fiscally responsible budget with $1.4 billion in projected surpluses.
The government is containing future expenditure growth and has given a continuing commitment to no new taxes to provide businesses with the confidence they need to invest and grow.
This budget sets South Australia up for the future with strength, ambition, and optimism. It does so without surprises or detours. It is exactly what South Australians expect from a government that has been clear about its priorities and is getting on with the job.”
